About

Heather Spence, artist for Heather Spence DesignsHeather Spence started quilting in 2004 while pregnant with her second daughter. At first it was dabbling with fabric. In 2007 all changed when she started working in a quilt shop. When customers started asking af-ter a longarm quilter she started filling the need.

Top to Bottom Quilting was born in late 2007. Heather bought her lon-garm the spring of 2008. The business has since grown to include Cus-tom Quilts, often made with t-shirts, clothing, photos and even handprints!

At the beginning of 2010 the business started to go through a revision, and became Heather Spence Designs. The change incorporates, not just longarm quilting, but pattern design and custom quilts.

This is what Heather has to say:

“I find quilting a joyful and exciting adventure. From the wide variety of fabrics and threads to the ever growing and changing techniques. Exploring the world of quilting with others is one of the best parts of my job. I especially love to teach the art of quilting to others. The independence of owning my own business based on my art has been life changing by showing me that I am strong, creative, and smart. Soft colors and simple designs infuse my work to communicate that through all of life the difficulties can be covered with love and warmth. My greatest passion is to show through bits of cotton the love and value that each person is due.”

She makes her home in Sumner, Washington with her husband and children. She enjoys working out, reading, having dinner with her friends, playing with her children and hanging out with her husband.

“Pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.
